Wool pre-felt – Perfect base for needle felting and wet felting

£3.00£12.00

Choose from 100% Shetland or ethically sourced Merino: sheets are 2-3mm thick. This quality pre-felt creates a perfect base for your needle felted and wet felted pictures. I have used this pre-felt very successfully for both; see photographs. If wet felting please allow for shrinkage. Shrinkage amount varies but one third is usually a good rule of thumb. If you want a firmer, more rigid base to needle felt onto e.g. portraits, fine details, broches, and similar, I would recommend the wool felt squares or premium Belgium artists linen that can be found HERE. See below for more details about pre-felt.

Description

PRE-FELT DETAILS AND USES – Pre-felt has been partly needle felted but is still stretchy

  • Choose from Shetland or Merino – Shetland is coarser than Merino
  • Easier to felt onto than craft felt; craft felt is more expensive but a great option for portraits and fine details as it doesn’t stretch
  • Use as a base for needle felted and wet felted pictures
  • Ideal for cutting out miniature animal or doll clothes
  • Colour is a natural, un-bleached off white
  • Make wet felted cushion covers
  • Give your felted brooches more rigidity

Please note: The Shetland will contain a little more vegetable matter (grass) than Merino. This can be easily removed, or left if you are covering with wool. I have never felt the need to removed the little bits of grass when using for my own projects. If you are not covering it all with wool then I would go with the Merino.

Keep away from pets and children
